Traveling in Vilnius, Lithuania
During a trip to Vilnius, I visited Soho Club, a popular local bar. I met Zivile, a lifelong Vilnius resident, and Nathan, a recent immigrant learning Hebrew. We discussed their experiences living in Lithuania and Israel, touching on the varying levels of openness and acceptance in each place. Their stories highlighted how cultural and social contexts deeply influence communication patterns and personal expression.
Communication Experiments in the Classroom
Back in my classroom, I often used humor and unique exercises to teach my students about communication. One day, I asked a student to explain the meaning of a derogatory term he had used. This led to an impromptu lesson on respect and the power of words, using historical and cultural contexts to deepen their understanding. These moments reinforced the significance of clear and respectful communication in education.
